MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD SURVEYS PRESENTED TO THEM THAT INDICATE STRUCTURAL CONCERNS.  DELAMINATION, HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT, STRUCTURAL DECAY, ROTTED STRINGERS, WET CORE MATERIAL, SOFT DECKS, ETC., ARE COMMON TERMS THAT MANY HAVE HEARD BUT MAY NOT FULLY UNDERSTAND!  THE FOLLOWING PHOTOS ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF THESE FINDINGS.  BEWARE- IF A SURVEY TELLS YOU OF POSSIBLE STRUCTURAL DEFICIENCIES OR INDICATES THAT ANY OF THESE CONDITIONS MAY EXIST, IT COULD BE WORTH INVESTIGATING FURTHER FOR YOUR SAFETY!

THE ABOVE PHOTO SHOWS AN EXAMPLE OF LAYERS OF FIBERGLASS THAT,
DO TO DELAMINATION, HAVE BEEN PEELED APART.  THIS PROBLEM IS A
SERIOUS CONDITION THAT CAUSES THE INTEGRITY OF THE STRUCTURE
TO BE JEAPARDIZED.

THE ABOVE LEFT PHOTO SHOWS THAT THE ENGINE MOUNT IS SUNKEN
INTO THE STRINGER SURFACE (THRU THE FIBERGLASS).  THE SURVEY
FINDINGS HAD INDICATED HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT IN  THE ENGINE
STRINGERS, AND UPON DISSASEMBLY, THE TOP RIGHT PHOTO SHOWS THAT THE WOOD TIMBER THAT FORMS THE STRUCTURAL PORTION OF THE STRINGER, IS ROTTED AWAY AND NO LONGER OF ANY USE!

THE ABOVE PHOTO SHOW AN EXAMPLE OF ROTTED CORE MATERIAL.  DURING SURVEY, FINDINGS HAD INDICATED THAT THERE WAS HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT IN THE CORE MATERIAL AND ACCOUSTICAL FINDINGS INDICATED THAT THE CORE WAS WET, DELAMINATING, AND BECOMING SOFT.  DURING DISSASEMBLY, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PLYWOOD WAS SATURATED WITH WATER AND NO LONGER HAD ANY STRUCTURAL VALUE.

DURING  SURVEY, IT WAS NOTED ON THIS 36' WOOD BOAT, THAT THE SIDE DECKS HAD HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT AND THAT SOUNDINGS INDICATED SOFT SUB DECK MATERIAL.  FOLLOWING THE REMOVAL OF THE TOE RAILS AND DECK COVERING MATERIAL, THE PLYWOOD AND TIMBER MATERIAL WAS ROTTED AND WET.  THIS IS A SERIOUS STRUCTUAL CONCERN!
